Bureau of Prison
Rules
You can send cards and letters, up to 25 pages total in the envelope. They are picky – nothing taped, or stapled (if it is a homemade card nothing can be glued to it, just ink and paper in other words). No nudity in the photos (just in case you were considering it, just kidding) and nothing that depicts illegal activity of course.
All mail from you to them and vice versa is read by prison personnel so never talk about anything illegal. That said, our cannabis activism is not illegal and it is OK to talk about that. I do it all the time. Paperback books (up to 5 per envelope) can be sent and magazines or newspapers (not sure on the limit of those). Hardcover books can be sent, but it must be via the bookseller (in other words you can order from Amazon to send a hardcover book but you cannot send it yourself, not sure on the rationale on that one). Nothing else can be sent to prisoners, everything else they have to buy from the prison (I owe my soul to the company store) – stamps, paper, pencils, phone cards, computer time to email, and anything beyond bare basics of persona care/hygiene items, foods, etc.
Any question, ask and I will either know or find out.
